This is the link explaining the consultation process: Child Maintenance Consultation
Hey everyone, this is your chance to make a massive difference in the child maintenance system, whether you're a paying parent or receiving parent. The government is currently running a consultation about child maintenance, specifically how payments are collected. One proposal suggests that everyone be put on collect and pay—yes, everyone. This could mean every parent paying 2%. As the Child Maintenance Service is a government department, that 2% will eventually go back to the government to pay for other things, not child related.
Key Points:
- Collect and Pay for All: Even if you’re paying on time or have no issues receiving payments, you might still be put on collect and pay.
- Charges Involved: Both paying and receiving parents will be charged 2% of their income, impacting nearly 1 million child maintenance cases.
- Child Maintenance Focus: This change aims to recoup some costs and modify how the Child Maintenance Service (CMS) operates, which may or may not be beneficial.
- Your Opinion Matters: Whether you agree or disagree with these changes, it’s crucial to participate in the consultation. Your input can shape the future of child maintenance.
How to Participate:
- Fill Out the Survey: The link to the questionnaire is in the description. Provide your feedback to influence the outcome.
- Stay Updated: If the survey has closed, check the same link for other petitions and future consultations on child maintenance and benefits.
Why It Matters:
- Impact on Finances: The 2% charge could significantly affect both paying and receiving parents.
- Voice Your Opinion: If you don’t participate, you can’t influence the decision.
- Future Changes: Your feedback today will shape child maintenance for the future.
Call to Action:
- Click the link in the description to access the questionnaire.
- Fill out your answers and share your thoughts.
- Stay informed about future consultations and petitions.

Small point it is not a 2% charge on income as stated above(if you are a RP with no income you wouldn't be charged would you) Its an addition or deduction to your assessed PAYMENT PWC will get 2% less in each payment NRP will pay 2% more total "fee" to CMS 4% of the assessed payment.
On the UK average income of 35K with an assessed payment at 15% (average of the rates for numbers of children) of £5250 pa that is £105 pa reduction for the PWC & a £105 pa increase for the NRP £210 pa per case on around a million cases that's £210 million for the CMS/ Treasury from what is available for children & a quadrupling of what is currently taken in fees of around £50 million pa.
The Punitive 24% rate (20% NRP 4% PWC) will remain, as at present, for possibly 10,000 cases in enforcement which so another£17.5 million pa for CMS/Treasury so around £230 million pa taken from the most vulnerable - our children!
Ignore all the absolute rubbish &platitudes about reducing child poverty, (it wont it will create more) reacting to DV & abuse & improving the "service" by digitalising & automating it it (Dehumanising it & reducing staff levels all "decisions" made by the IT System that is programmed only to reject change or correction) etc etc
Wake up people its an exploitative "MONEY GRAB" from the most defenceless in society!
SAY NO & TELL THEM WHY " OUR CHILDREN CANNOT AFFORD IT"
Just a small point (not) Its not a 2% charge on "income" (if you are a PWC with no income you couldn't be charged could you?)
Its a 2% charge, on both the PWC & NRP so 4% in total, of the "assessed maintenance payment"
It is not, as suggested by the consultation document either fiscally neutral nor benefit to either. every NRP will pay 2% more & every PWC will have 2% deducted from their maintenance payment FACT!
So, on the "National Average Wage" of £35,000 assessed at 15% the average rate for numbers of children, that's "payments" of £5250 pa per case giving a charge of £105 pa from the PWC & £105 from the NRP £ 210 in total.
On around say a million cases that's £210 million for the CMS/Treasury QUADRUPLE the £50 million it currently takes punitively at 24% on probably some 10,000 non compliant arrears cases in enforcement but plans are also afoot to, by stepping up enforcement, considerably broaden the scope of this!
The punitive 24% rate (20% from NRP's 4% from PWC's) will remain so that is a further £17.6 million top up, to the £210 million from the basic 4% rate, at current levels but potentially much more if the scope, of the punitive 24% rate, is extended as is planned!
We could be looking at possibly up to £250 million pa, being taken by CMS for the Treasury, from what is "available" from us for our children.!
Ignore all the lies & platitudes in the consultation document about alleviating child poverty (it will increase) tackling DV & abuse (it will not) or improving the "service" by digitalisation the reality which, as we are already seeing from the not fit for purpose "Portal," means total control & the ability for CMS to delete or edit all the case information & data with all complaints & corrections "unconsidered" by case workers but just "programmed" to be rejected by the "IT system enabling fewer "staff" to be needed so less cost!
This is purely & simply a "MONEY GRAB" from some of the most disadvantaged, abused, impoverished & above all utterly defenceless members of society us & our children. If you do nothing else do this "NOW" before it is "too late."
WAKE UP PEOPLE SAY NO TO THIS & MAKE YOUR MP AWARE OF THESE SICKENING FACTS.
The DWP & CMS, who are conducting this "consultation" on the "assumption" that it be a "forgone conclusion," are certainly not going to!
